The Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKU Mardan) is a public sector university situated in Mardan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, charted by the Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The university was established in April 2009, the university and was named after Abdul Wali Khan, a well-known leader of Pakhtunkhwa. The foundation of AWKU Mardan is a big step towards developing the mind of young intellectuals and utilize resources for the betterment of society. It has a total of 9 campuses and around ten thousand students are enrolled in 31 disciplines. Around 49 institutions are affiliated with AWKU Mardan.

The institute has all the modern departments equipped with resources like furnished classrooms, computer labs, science labs, and a library required for quality education and research. Students from Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Dir, Chitral, Northern Punjab, Kohat, and tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are drawn towards AWKU Mardan. Most of the students belong to the tribal regions who cannot receive higher education due to financial instability. However, the establishment of AWKU provides an academic platform for these students.

AWKU Mardan is affiliated with the Higher Education Commission (Pakistan), Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council and  Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, and as well as Pakistan Bar Council. The motto of the AWKU Mardan is “Message of Peace and Brotherhood”. The people of KPK were desperately trying for the establishment of AWKU Mardan and its foundation is the accomplishment of their struggle.

The vision of AWKU Mardan is to “inculcate quality education affordable to the majority of people, aiming at the scientific, economic, and socio-cultural uplift of the masses for higher learning and research”.

Their mission is to “achieve par excellence in Natural, Social and Administrative Sciences, Arts and Humanities in a sophisticated manner and state-of-the-art environment”.

Admission to AWKU Mardan is purely based on merit. Applicants have to apply online by visiting the AWKU website. An entrance exam is conducted by the university. The applicant must pass the entrance test for admission to AWKU Mardan.

Selection Criteria for Undergraduate Programs
1. 12 years of field-related education, passed with at least a second division from any registered institution.
2. 50% marks in the entry test.

Selection Criteria for Graduate Programs
1. 16 years of education with at least second division with an aggregate of 45% in the annual system and 2.5 CGPA in the semester system.
2. 50% marks in the entry test.
