BS Bioinformatics

The BS in Bioinformatics is a 4 years degree programme that is designed to meet the needs of a diverse, fast-paced field. Bioinformatics, which combines biology and computer science, is a new field that aids in the collection, connecting, and manipulation of various forms of biological data in order to uncover new biological insights. Bioinformatics is important for interpreting biological data since it provides quick information, speeds up research, and helps us understand and better our lives. The goal of the BS in Bioinformatics program is to provide students with up-to-date information, software tools, and databases to help them better manipulate biological data and discover new medications to cure diverse ailments. Students can work as a Bioinformatics software developer, a scientific curator, a Protein analyst, a Computational biologist, a Phylogeneticist, a Gene analyst, a Research scientist, a Database programmer, a Structural analyst, a Biostatistician, or a Molecular modeller.

Scope

Bioinformaticians have job opportunities in a range of fields. Bioinformatics is now mostly used to speed up the development of novel drugs. The application of IT to the entire life sciences industry for the same purposes that it is done in other industrial sectors—improving efficiency, lowering prices, expanding access, and so on—is becoming increasingly important. Biodiversity data management, for example, necessitates the use of the best database architecture approaches as well as data warehousing and data mining strategies. Knowledge management, as applied to enterprises, will become significant in the scientific setting to ensure that Indian scientists receive timely and relevant information about their research, allowing them to network and collaborate to produce new intellectual property. Candidates with the relevant skill set and knowledge can apply to pharmaceutical firms, biomedical organizations, biotech research institutions, agricultural companies, and even non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that need bioinformationists. After completing the studies, there is also the option of becoming an academician. Research institutes, as well as pharmaceutical firms, chemical industries, agriculture, and associated industries seeking to increase the world of knowledge, offer job prospects in this field.
