NUST Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (NIPCONS) was initiated in December 2009 at the NUST Campus, Tamizuddin Road, Rawalpindi Cantonment, to develop the system of education for the Army cadets / Young Officers (YOs), in accordance with the academic standards of NUST. The Institute was intended to act as a center for excellence in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies, as well as a center for Peacekeeping Training (PKT) and affairs of UN peacekeeping operations.

In February 2013, the Centre for International Peace & Stability (CIPS) was founded. Since its set up, the institute has hosted very special guests from around the world, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, who formally inaugurated it on 13 August 2013. The Centre operates in parallel ways. First, it supervises short-term courses for troops assigned for UN peacekeeping missions and graduate programs in Peace & Conflict Studies (PCS).

Vision The vision of NIPCONS is to grow as a center of excellence in the fields of Military Art & Science and Peace and Conflict Studies. The Centre also operates as a Think Tank. The institute collaborates with other academic institutions and partners for dealing with future challenges.

Mission The mission of the university is to Undertake high-quality teaching, research, and serve as a think tank on issues of Peace and Conflict Studies. The Department of PCS of NIPCONS has completed the course work for the first batch of Ph.D. candidates. These candidates have now entered the research phase of their studies. The department has organized national/international seminars and several lectures by members representing entities of international repute like the Asia Pacific Center for Strategic Studies (APCSS) Hawaii and Near Eastern and South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies on the subjects of contemporary interests.

Admissions in NIPCONS opens in June. Admissions are purely based on merit. Students can apply online. University will then assign the entry test date. Selection Criteria for Undergraduate Programs  – Candidate passed 12-years of field-related education. – At least with the second division in matric and FSC. – 50% marks in the entry test. Selection Criteria for graduate Programs  – Candidate passed 16-years of field-related education. – At least with the second division from any of the recognized institutes. – 50% marks in the entry test. – Selected candidates will be screened during the interview. Selection Criteria for Postgraduate Programs – The candidate passed the graduate program. – At least with the 3CGPA from any of the recognized institutes. – 50% marks in the entry test. – Selected candidates will be screened during the interview

Every year NIPCONS delivers awards scholarships to deserving, needy, and talented students. The scholarships include need-based, merit-based, welfare funds, and special scholarships for the candidates of KPK, FATA, and Balochistan. Financial aid is provided to the students from tribal areas of Pakistan.
