Scholarship Details

At Yale University, financial aid is divided into three categories: Yale Scholarship, Merit-based scholarships, and Entitlement grants.

The Yale Scholarship is purely the university’s internal financial aid and it is awarded solely based on financial need.

Merit-based scholarships, on the other hand, may be funded by private companies, employers, and nonprofit organizations, but are not offered by Yale. These scholarships are awarded based on criteria directly related to a student’s performance in academics, sports, music, or another field of special interest. Merit-based scholarships may decrease or substitute the Student Share component of the Yale financial aid award.

Entitlement grants are given based on standards such as federal need, residence, or association with an employer. These grants may come from sources such as the federal or state government and other agencies not affiliated with Yale. Entitlement grants may reduce student’s financial expenses prominently.

How to Apply

All international or foreign applicants who are seeking financial aid for their studies at Yale University must complete the CSS Profile in addition to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The CSS Profile is a financial aid application used by Yale and other colleges and universities to determine a student’s eligibility for non-federal financial aid. It is used to evaluate a student’s financial needs, and the information provided on the CSS Profile is used to calculate the student’s expected family contribution (EFC).

International or foreign applicants need to submit the CSS Profile as soon as possible to ensure that they are considered for financial aid. Fresh applicants must apply with their admission application. The entire process is completely online.
