The Fulbright Program fosters global connections in an increasingly interconnected and dynamic world. Administered jointly by the United States government and partner nations from around the globe, the program provides unique opportunities for international educational and cultural exchange. The Fulbright Master’s and Ph.D.  program offers funding for graduate studies in the United States, which includes:

  1. Tuition
  2. Required textbooks
  3. Airfare
  4. Living stipend
  5. Health insurance Additionally, the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) provides assistance with the visa process.

 

The Fulbright Master’s and Ph.D. Program has some terms and conditions for successful candidates which include:

  1. Signing a contract with the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP)
  2. For PhD candidates, signing a bond with the Higher Education Commission (HEC)
  3. Commitment to return to Pakistan and serve the country for a number of years equivalent to the length of their scholarship program.
  4. This contract is redeemable on a year-for-year basis for a minimum of two years, with no financial penalty as long as the service requirement is fulfilled.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Pakistani citizens with strong academic backgrounds currently residing in Pakistan
  2. Committed to returning and serving Pakistan after completing the program in the US.
  3. All disciplines are eligible except clinical medicine and applicants in fields such as energy, water, agriculture, health, education, environment, and climate change are particularly encouraged to apply.
  4. Eligible Master’s applicants will have a four-year Bachelor’s degree or a Bachelor’s and Master’s combination (16 years of formal education)
  5. Ph.D. applicants must have 18 years of education in the relevant field from an accredited university.
  6. Must be prepared to complete the program without accompanying dependents if necessary.

Ineligible applicants include:

  1. Those with dual U.S./Pakistan nationality
  2. Those with a U.S. citizen or permanent resident spouse, parent, sibling, or child over 18 years of age
  3. Employees of the Fulbright organization, the U.S. Department of State, or USAID and their immediate family
  4. Those who have already availed of one Fulbright award for any degree program
  5. Those already studying in the U.S. or on a work/residence/student visa in any country

 

How to Apply

To apply for the Fulbright Master’s and Ph.D. Program, interested candidates are required to:

  • Create an account for online applications on the official website. https://www.usefp.org/scholarships/fulbright-degree.cfm
  • Read all directions on the website before starting the application process.
  • Appear for a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) before or while applying.
  • An application has different sections from personal information to the required documents, a candidate is instructed to fill out all those sections with correct information.

Required Documents

  1. An application form
  2. Three reference letters
  3. GRE score report
  4. Scanned degrees/certificates; HEC-attested documents are preferable, but degrees and transcripts attested by the issuing authority will be accepted at the time of application.
  •  It is important to note that incomplete applications will not be considered, and all application materials including references and required supporting documents must be submitted online.
  • Paper applications will not be accepted.

Important Points

  • USEFP plans to award 150 scholarships in total.
  • Applicants cannot apply for a master leading to a Ph.D.
  • Applicants can apply for only one degree either a master or a Ph.D.
  • TOEFL is not mandatory with the initial application, but selected candidates will be required to take the TOEFL.
  • Fulbright is a merit-based program and merit is assessed by considering the applicant’s achievements given their circumstances and potential for success.
  • A strong candidate will have a good academic background, demonstrated commitment to their community, good English language skills, and an appropriate Graduate Record Examination (GRE General) score.
  • There are no quotas for the program, and all applications are evaluated on their own merit.
