UNHCR has always prioritized Higher education as a Strategy for Refugee Education. According to UNHCR educating young refugees makes it possible to develop skills and earn qualifications which in return allow them to become change-makers for their country.

The strategic priorities of the DAFI program are to Promote refugee self-reliance, Empower students to contribute knowledge, skills and leadership, Strengthen the protective impact of education, Provide role models for refugee children and youth.

Scholarship Details

The Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative, known as the DAFI scholarship program, offers qualified refugee and returnee students the possibility to earn an undergraduate degree in their country of asylum or home country.

These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis with regard to merit, excellence and financial need. The program grants scholarships to deserving young refugees enrolled in Higher Education Commission recognized universities, colleges and polytechnics in Pakistan.

Scholarship value/inclusions

In DAFI scholarship students receive a subsistence allowance to cover costs such as accommodation, food, books and study materials, and local transportation.

Eligibility

To apply for a DAFI scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • You are an individual who has been granted refugee status in the host country.
  • You are considered as in need of international protection by UNHCR and/or the host country.
  • You are 28 years or younger at the start of your studies.
