The Australia Awards Scholarships are designed to support international students from developing countries to study in Australia. These scholarships include:

  • A preparatory academic program
  • Health insurance coverage

In addition to the standard fees and entitlements covered by the Australia Awards Scholarships, subject to specific requirements and eligibility, the scholarship may also cover the following:

  • Fees for pre-course English language training
  • Additional academic support, such as tutoring or mentoring.
  • Fieldwork expenses for research purposes
  • Reunion airfare for awardees who are not accompanied by family members during their studies in Australia.
  • It is important to note that the specific benefits and coverage of the scholarship may vary depending on the level of study, country of origin, and other factors.
  • The Australian Government does not offer any financial assistance for the family members of awardees who move with them to Australia, and awardees are responsible for financially supporting their dependents.

Australia Awards Scholarships are available for a variety of courses including:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) programs

 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years of age on February 1st of the year in which the scholarship begins.
  • Be a citizen of a participating country and currently residing in and applying from their country of citizenship.
  • Must not be an Australian citizen, neither shall apply permanent visa to live permanently in Australia
  • Not be married, engaged, or in a de facto relationship with someone who holds or is eligible to hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency at any point during the application, selection, and mobilization phase.
  • Not be currently serving as military personnel.
  • Not have previously received a long-term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of Australia for twice the length of the total time they were in Australia (e.g., a previous awardee who was in Australia for 4 years will not be eligible to apply for another scholarship until they have resided outside Australia for 8 years)
  • Not have any convictions for criminal activities (including in their home country), including those related to Child Protection and PSEAH
  • An overall score of at least 6.5 on the Academic IELTS, with no band score less than 6.0, or
  • An internet based TOEFL score of at least 84, with a minimum score of 21 in all subtests.
  • These English language scores are not negotiable, and all Australia Awards Scholarship awardees must meet this requirement.

To apply for an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must submit a variety of supporting documents, including:

  • A certified copy of the original formal degree graduation certificate
  • A certified copy of the original formal academic transcript/s
  • A certified copy of a citizenship document (e.g., passport or national identity card)
  • A certified copy of the original birth certificate and, if not in English, a certified translation
  • A curriculum vitae (CV)
