Students in Pakistan Demanding to Close Institutions amid COVID19 Pandemic

There is been a second wave of COVID19 in Pakistan. In the last 24 hours, there has been around 3000 new cases and 60 deaths. Total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan has reached to 374,173. In past week, District Government of Pakistan sealed multiple schools, colleges and various departments of Universities including NUST, NUML, Quad-e-Azam University. COMSATS University Islamabad was also sealed completely after the death of its Registrar Prof. Dr. Moiz Udin due to COVID19 Infection.

Students from all over Pakistan are demanding to close the institutions across Pakistan due to increasing cases of COVID19. On microblogging website, Twitter, around 20,000 accounts are participating in this protest demanding the closure of universities using hastag #closeallinstitutions.

This is the time of year when Universities conduct the second term exam of their various programs. Few universities are conducting these exams via online tools but most of the universities have scheduled on-campus examinations.

Next session on COVID19 of the provincial education ministers is on November 23rd, 2020. It is expected that educational institutions all around Pakistan will be directed to move online semesters.
