Higher Education in China: An Alternative for Pakistani Students

It was a long while ago when the Cultural Revolution ended in China after the death of great Chinese leader Chairman Mao, and the great industrial revolution began.

Deng Xiaoping was the man behind this great industrial revolution. The modern China is the testament of his policies and views. His policy of openness and free market took Chinese people out of poverty and laid a solid foundation of the bright Chinese future.

Deng Xiaoping not only focused on the economic reforms, but he knew that the education and human resource was equally important for China too. Initially, Deng Xiaoping sent young Chinese students to the leading world universities for higher education. These students on their return played a pivotal role in uplifting the Chinese economy.

The Chinese government in the last few decades, following the footsteps and guidance of their great leader Deng Xiaoping, has invested heavily in the education sector. Their invested finances and energy in the education sector has paid good enough dividends. The international rankings of universities by various institutions demonstrate the excellent performance of Chinese universities.

For the year 2021in the QS ranking system, 6 universities from the Chinese mainland were included among the top 100 universities in the world. If we include Hong Kong and Taiwan regions, the number reaches to 11.

Today, in Pakistan many young researchers and students look for higher education in various part of the world. And many students have wrong perceptions regarding Chinese universities. People have very little or even no idea about the culture of Chinese universities and education.

Allow me to share some important information in this context. Chinese universities and government of China these days are focusing to attract a huge number of international students. In this context, several types of scholarships are available for international students. One central institution for that purpose is China Scholarship Council (CSC), which is extending a large number of scholarships to international students. Other than CSC scholarship, many other scholarships are also available for international students, those include local government scholarships and universities own scholarships as well.

The scholarship is the funding which normally is required to sustain in a country for the education period. On the other hand, for research purposes, research grants are required for publishing papers and finishing the experimental tasks. And guess what? Chinese professor and universities are too generous in providing research grants. So overall, I can say if a student fails to get a scholarship in Europe or the USA, he can try for China, considering it the best alternate option in all aspects.
