PhD Medical Genetics

Medical genetics is the science of human biologic variation as it relates to health and disease. Clinical genetics is that part of medical genetics concerned with the health of individual humans and their families. Alternatively, clinical genetics can be defined as the science and practice of diagnosis, prevention, and management of genetic disorders.Knowledge of human genetic makeup is a sub speciality of medicine, that deals with humane genetics comprising of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Medical genetics remains a subset of human genetics, although human genetics is an academic discipline that may or may not have anything to do with medicine. For instance, enquiry into the factor[s] underlying the transmission of genetic diseases would fall under both human and medical genetics; the identifying, treatment and informing the individuals with these diseases would fall under the medical genetics. Medical genetics is any application of genetic principles to medical practice. This includes studies of inheritance, mapping disease genes, diagnosis and treatment, and genetic counseling. Medical genetics is the application of genetics to medical care, including the study of how genes relate to human health and disease.
