MS/MPhil Urdu

It is a minimum of a 2-years postgraduate degree program that aims to enhance the knowledge of the students about Urdu language and literature. It also equips the aspirants with research skills to know better about the current and past trends in the evolution of the language. It consists of 4 semesters of course work and a research thesis. The students may have to complete the research thesis to become eligible for the degree. The prerequisite of the degree is BS-Urdu (4 years)/MA-Urdu with at least 45% marks in the annual system examination/ 2.50 CGPA in the semester system. The aspirants must have passed GAT General/GRE International before admission and they may have to pass the admission test of the university.

Scope

MPhil Degree in Urdu Language and literature enhance the critical approach and understanding of the degree holder about the language. It equips the aspirants with advanced research skills to do their research about the evolution and recent trends in the language. This certainly enables the degree holders to bring many positive trends in the current literature and attracts the reader of today. The degree holders have leadership qualities to work in various capacities in government and private departments that engage in the development of Urdu. They can work influentially in these departments due to a deep understanding of Urdu literature and language. MS degree holders in Urdu have high scope in the faculty of universities. In this way, they get the opportunity to teach the students with more expertise. Journalism is another field that has good scope for degree holders in many capacities. Being experts in many genres of Urdu literature, the degree holders can have high scope in the field of writing scripts, dramas, novels, etc. for print, electronic, and social media.
