MS Mineral Processing Engineering

Mineral processing engineering, also known as mineral beneficiation, ore dressing, or mineral extraction, is a branch of applied science that involves separating valuable minerals from ores in the field of extractive metallurgy. It's a key part of the extractive metallurgy process, which also includes refining and preparing metals for use. The goal of mineral processing is to prepare ores for the extraction of metals and other non-metallic products. Mineral processing involves a series of unit operations to prepare and classify ores. These operations include comminution, concentration, sizing, sampling, and bulk material handling. Mineral processing is subject to three rules: mass conservation (the total amount of material entering the process plant must equal the total amount exiting), concentrate quality (it's not possible to produce a concentrate that's made up of only one mineral), and mineral recovery (it's not practical to recover all of the valuable minerals into the concentrate). One of the oldest techniques in mineral processing, gravity separation uses the force of gravity to separate minerals of different specific gravities.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Sixteen years of schooling or 4 years education after HSSC/A’ Level in relevant discipline with minimum CGPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 OR 55% marks
  • A minimum of 50% marks in the GAT General
  • They also need to pass an entrance exam
