MS Geosciences

MS Geosciences is 2 years degree program that combines geology and physical geography to provide a broad multidisciplinary understanding of the major environmental challenges we face today, such as climate change and the impact of humans on the environment. It also provides practical field skills in mapping, field geology, remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS).Through lectures, coursework, field study and access to geographical information systems, this programme covers the fundamentals of geoscience, from the origin and formation of the Earth to the causes of climate change, to equip the next generation of experts with a deep appreciation of the science behind the way the Earth works.

Core Courses

  • Marine Geology
  • Earthquake Seismology
  • Stratigraphy of Pakistan
  • Igneous & Metamorphic Petrology
  • GIS & Remote Sensing

Eligibility Criteria

  • BS in Geosciences with minimum 2.5 CGPA from HEC recognized Institute.
  • Passing marks in entry test.

Scope

Geographical science is critical in the discovery, extraction, and management of earth resources, among other things. Almost every aspect of our modern day-to-day lives is dependent on the availability of these minerals and energy supplies. Students who study for a Masters in GeoScience degree on campus will have access to a wide range of options in this essential field. Geoscientists utilize a range of simple and advanced tools. They may collect rock samples with a hammer and chisel during a typical day in the field, then utilize ground-penetrating radar equipment to look for oil or minerals. X-rays and electron microscopes may be used in laboratories to evaluate the chemical and physical composition of rock samples. They may also collect data using remote sensing equipment and analyze it using geographic information systems (GIS) and modeling software. The largest employers of geoscientists are as follows:

  • Architectural, engineering, and related services
  • Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction
  • Federal government, excluding postal service
  • State government, excluding education and hospitals
  • Colleges, universities, and professional schools; state, local, and private
