M.phil Oral Pathology

Oral pathology is a dental specialty that focuses on the study, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth, including the teeth, gums, bones, joints, glands, skin, and muscles, and related structures such as salivary glands, temporomandibular joints, facial muscles and perioral skin (the skin around the mouth). Pathology has many different sub-branches. However, the main focus of pathology is to study the cause, source, and disease itself. The mouth is an important organ with many different functions. It is also prone to a variety of medical and dental disorders. The specialty oral is concerned with the diagnosis and study of the causes and effects of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. It is sometimes considered to be a specialty of dentistry and pathology. Oral pathologists examine patients, diagnose oral diseases, and provide treatment. They also research the causes, processes, and effects of oral diseases. The oral pathologist provides diagnoses on which treatment by other specialists will depend.

Eligibility Criteria

  • MBBS/BDS or equivalent duly recognized by the concerned regulatory authority.
  • Valid registration with PMC (where applicable).
  • GAT (General) with a minimum 50% of cumulative score.
  • They also need to pass an entrance test or interview.

Scope

The scope of oral pathology includes the examination, identification, and management of diseases and conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. Oral pathologists use a variety of diagnostic tools and techniques, such as biopsies, microscopic examination, and molecular analysis.
