M.phil Microbiology

Microbiology is the scientific study of microorganisms, those being unicellular (single-celled), multicellular (consisting of complex cells), or acellular (lacking cells). Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, or microbes, which are organisms that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Microbiology encompasses numerous sub-disciplines including virology, bacteriology, protistology, mycology, immunology, and parasitology. Microbiology includes the study of the structure, function, and classification of microbes, as well as how to control and exploit their activities. Microbiology has many sub-disciplines, including virology, bacteriology, mycology, protistology, immunology, and parasitology. Microbiological procedures usually must be aseptic and use a variety of tools, such as light microscopes with a combination of stains and dyes. Microbiologists traditionally relied on culture, staining, and microscopy for the isolation and identification of microorganisms. Microbiologists currently rely on molecular biology tools such as DNA sequence-based identification, for example, the 16S RNA gene sequence used for bacterial identification.
