BS Textile Science

Textile science is the study of the properties and processing of fibers, yarns, fabrics, dyes, and finishes. It covers the science and technology of the textile industry and provides a background for selecting, using, and caring for textiles. Fiber identification is the most established component of this discipline. Textile science equips designers with knowledge of these treatments, enabling them to create unique visual effects and enhance fabric properties for specific purposes. It focuses on the properties and processing of fibers, yarns, whole fabrics, dyes, and finishes, both natural and synthetic. Textile science covers the areas: understanding and learning how to produce textiles sustainably, how to innovate new textile techniques, how to construct woven fabrics, how to apply color to textile materials, how to chemically analyze fabric blends, and how to synthesize azo dyes and apply them to multi-fabric swatches. It also includes how to dye, weave, block print, and embroider fabrics.
