BS Entomology

A thorough four-year undergraduate degree in the scientific study of insects and their interactions with people, the environment, and agriculture is provided by the Bachelor of Science in Entomology program. Insect biology, physiology, taxonomy, ecology, and pest control methods are all thoroughly understood by the students. Through field research, lab work, and classroom instruction, the program places a strong emphasis on theoretical and practical understanding. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Entomology program can work in the fields of public health, research, environmental protection, and agriculture, supporting sustainable farming methods, biodiversity preservation, and pest management. Students pursuing this degree will gain a general understanding of insects and how they relate to other living things, humans, and the environment. Students gain a strong scientific foundation in entomology, biology, chemistry, mathematics, ecology and biotechnology, coupled with field experiences and lab work, which provides students with practical skills, needed for research or industry careers. Entomology is the study of insects, which have dominated the terrestrial planet for more than 350 million years. While entomologists have recognized and named more than one million different species of insects, experts vary widely on the true number of insect species — with estimates ranging from three million to 30 million unique species. At any given moment, 200+ million insects live for every human on Earth; over 70% of all animal species are insects. They have achieved something that has eluded humans — sustainable development. Insects are the primary consumers of plants, yet they are also the dominant pollinators, thus ensuring plant reproduction. They play a critical role in disease transmission yet the service they provide to ecological maintenance is unparalleled.
