COVID-19 Screening and Testing held at COMSATS University Islamabad

The pandemic has caused severe damage to the education sector. So, the federal government decided to reopen the educational institutes in three phases where universities were the first to be allowed to open and resume the semester from 15th September 2020 on the campus. Thereby, according to this decision COMSATS University Islamabad started its classes for graduate students from 21st September 2020. Along with it, the fact can not be ignored that the Corona Virus still exists and we have to follow standard operating procedures given by health professionals to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The Rector COMSATS University Islamabad Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal inaugurated a random screening clinic organized by the National Health of Institute on 24th September 2020. He said COMSATS University gives priority to students’ wellbeing and on-campus safety. He added that the university is taking precautionary measures and will be organizing awareness sessions for faculty and students. He highly praised the role of healthcare practitioners, paramedics, and doctors working in hospitals and NIH officials who were involved in disease surveillance at their personal risk.

He concluded by announcing that NIH would be providing 400 free testing kits to the COMSATS University Islamabad for its first phase of screening and will be training the medical staff of the university for getting nasopharyngeal swab samples from COVID-19 suspected cases.
