COMSATS Abbottabad hosted 6th International Conference on Drug Discovery

The 6th International Conference was organized by Centre for Advanced Drug Research (CADR), COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus from 29-30th November 2019 on “Natural and Synthetic Drug Development”. The conference was funded by DAAD and the objective of the conference was to discuss the current approaches and emerging trends for the development and discovery of drugs.

Prof. Dr. Jamshed Iqbal (T.I) was the Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee. Rector of COMSATS University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar (T.I), Director of DAAD Ms. Inge Kristina Iqbal along with many other renown scientists including Prof. Dr. Claus Jacob, Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Prof. Dr. Tahseen Ghous, Prof. Dr. Athar Ata and Dr.Bushra Ijaz, Dr.Muhammad Saeed and Koloko Brice Landry etc from all over the world honored the event with their presence. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary was the Guest of Honor of the event.

Prof. Dr. Jamshed Iqbal (Chairman of the organizing committee), gave an inaugural talk and overview of the whole event, shared the aim and objectives of the conference and talked about the scope of new medicines emerging in Pakistan. He also shared his point of view regarding different health issues including Polio and Ebola which still exists in some states and needs to be eradicated completely at first otherwise there is no use of our research field as the common people are not getting benefit from it.

Rector COMSATS University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar in welcome address talked about the issues and drawbacks of the rapidly growing population in Pakistan and shared his views that why it is important to speed up the drug discovery and development in the developing countries like Pakistan.

The plenary lecture was given by the guest of honour Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary. He shared his kind views and showed affection for COMSATS. He sheds light on the importance of drug discovery and how much it is important for developing countries to work on the discovery and development of natural and synthetic drugs. He said than rather than increasing access to healthcare facilities the government needs to improve the Quality of healthcare which will also result in a decreased rate of hospital-acquired diseases.

The plenary lecture was followed by lectures of different scientists in which they gave their expert opinions about drug discovery and development according to their researches in their fields. There were also poster presentations presented by different professors from different universities.

The conference was concluded by the concluding remarks by Prof. Dr. Jamshed Iqbal followed by the keynote address by Chief Guest and Certificate Distribution Ceremony.
