Garrison Cadet College Kohat is a boarding school, situated in the suburb of Kohat City. Students are inducted after a 3-step selection process, composed of a written test, interview and medical examination. The entrance exam of class 8th is conducted at test centers in Kohat, Mardan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Multan, D.I.Khan, Sialkot and Karachi. The entrance exam of class 11th is conducted in Kohat.

Garrison Cadet College Kohat, has been established by HQ 9th Infantry Division, Kohat. The College is under the control and management of a Board of Governors, headed by General Officer Commanding 9th Infantry Division. Tenure of each member is three years.

Written tests are conducted simultaneously at centers. The tests consist of questions in the subjects of English, mathematics, and Islamiat/Urdu. The results of the written tests are advertised in newspapers and the successful candidates are notified by post. Candidates short-listed on the basis of written tests are interviewed by boards consisting of the college’s teachers. During the interview, the candidates also take IQ and psychological tests. Side by side with the interview, the short-listed candidates are also checked by a medical doctor for medical and physical fitness. A candidate failing in the medical fitness test, although otherwise cleared by the interview board, is rejected.
