Divisional Public Schools and Colleges also known as DPS or DP SC, is a network of schools, at the division level in Punjab, Pakistan. Established in 1963, this network became one of the leading institutions to provide education at the divisional level. The idea for DPS started back in 1958-1959, when a report was submitted on a commission called “Sharif Commission” to provide necessary education including primary, secondary and post-grad education. In the spring of 1962, the school was started that later became a series of interconnected educational institutes. The first school began with few leased rooms of the Gaddafi Stadium then known as the National Stadium, Lahore, which was shifted to Model Town, Lahore, later.
The first school building to be designed as the new Boys’ Junior Wing building, which was finished in 1965. In 1966, the school was elevated to a high school level. This school’s first batch of young students took their enrolment test in 1968. The same year, another milestone in the history of the Divisional High School was observed when the School Boarding House began to run with a strength of six students in the Residential Quarters. In 1976, the Divisional High School hit new heights and became an intermediate institution.
In 2015 and 2016, historic thresholds were achieved as all three top positions were won by DPS students. In 2016, under the leadership of DPS, talented student, Model Town Branch, secured 1st position overall with 1087 marks, the second position holder with 1086 marks, and the third with 1085 marks. This legendary success speaks itself about the excellence of DPS education. Currently, DPS has branches all over Punjab, including Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, D.G. Khan and Bahawalnagar.
The admission to Divisional Public Schools is purely based on merit. First, the applicant must have to submit the registration form. After the registration, the candidate has to be present and pass the admission test. The interview is conducted for the candidate along with his/her parents/guardian. After the interview, the candidate must clear the medical fitness test. The list of selected candidates is shown. Each house and class represent a limited number of students.
