QS Recognized Universities in Pakistan

 The world around us has been changing rapidly in every manner, and being a developing nation, we have been trying to keep up. When it comes to education and universities, ranking systems have shown progress over the years.

QS or Quacquarelli Symonds is one such prestigious ranking system acknowledged globally. QS world university rankings publish an annual list of the best universities across the globe.

These seven Pakistani universities have made their way into QS world university rankings.

1. National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad

Located in the heart of the capital city, NUST is one of the best public universities in the country. The institute has its head campus in Islamabad and sub-campuses in Risalpur and Karachi. It currently hosts over 11000 students and employs around 2000 faculty members.

As of 2021, it is ranked 355th in the world, climbing up by a good 45 places since last year. The credit for the institute’s constantly improving ranking goes to its research output. Known for the quality graduates it produces every year, NUST has earned its title as best ranked university of the country every year.

2. Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad

Another public university situated in the capital, PIEAS is ranked 373rd according to QS rankings 2021. PIEAS focuses on undergraduate and postgraduate programs relating to engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, and formal sciences.

While the institute doesn’t have a huge number of students, the competition for available positions is massive. As many as 12000 students applied for 120 BS program seats in 2016. That is proof of the quality of education provided at the institute. It is also the reason why PIEAS always manages to stay among the top three institutes of Pakistan.

3. Quaid e Azam University (QAU), Islamabad

With a 1700-acre campus stretching across the beautiful foothills of the Margalla, QAU is the country’s biggest public research university. The university has over 15000 students enrolled, making it one of the biggest universities in terms of enrolment.

The institute has nine affiliate teaching and research institutes and four faculties. It is ranked 454th globally according to QS University rankings 2021. The university attracts a wide number of international students due to its beautiful campus and quality education. However, it has limited seats to offer to be a federal public sector university.

4. Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore

LUMS is, without doubt, one of the very names representing the walled city of Lahore. It is a private university with a campus stretching across 100 acres in the heart of Lahore. With almost 6000 students currently enrolled, it is the dream university for business and management students of the country.

It is ranked 651-701 globally, climbing up by 50 places since last year. The university is ranked 191-200 in terms of graduate employability rate. A huge reason behind the improving rankings is the highly educated academic faculty, with over three quarters being doctorates. It is without a doubt one of the most progressive universities in the country.

5. COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI)

Ranked 801-1000 globally as of 2021, COMSATS Islamabad is a multi-campus public university. COMSATS hosts a huge number of over 35000 students, with around 2500 academic staff. The university has a main campus in Islamabad. There are satellite campuses in Abbottabad, Lahore, Wah, Vehari, Sahiwal, and Attock. It also has a virtual campus.

The University has 20 departments and offers 100 different programs ranging from Sciences to Engineering, Business, and Humanities. International students from 9 countries are also enrolled in the university.

6. University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore

University of Engineering and Technology was established in 1921. UET Lahore is a public university specializing in STEM subjects i.e Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It is ranked 801-1000 globally according to QS world university rankings.

UET has satellite campuses in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Narowal, and Kala Shah Kaku. It has 7 science faculties and 24 research departments. Over 250 academic faculty members have doctoral degrees and there are international faculty members as well. More than 50000 students compete for seats every year.

 

7. University of Punjab, Lahore

Originally established by the British government, the University of Punjab is the oldest public research university in the country. The university has over 45000 on-campus students on five campuses. The main campus is located in Lahore, with sub-campuses in Gujranwala, Jhelum, and Khanspur.

It has 13 faculties, 80+ departments, and 614 affiliated colleges. It is ranked 801-1000 in QS World University Rankings 2021.
