The foundation stone of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) was laid in 1906 as the Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute, Lyallpur. In 1961, it was upgraded to the West Pakistan Agricultural University, Lyallpur, and has been known as the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad since 1973. In the 21st century, UAF aims to expand the frontiers of knowledge by creating unique interdisciplinary programs in teaching, research, and outreach, all essential for agricultural and rural development. UAF aspires to be a model university that prepares citizens for the workforce and for leadership roles in a diverse, global, and technology-driven environment.
In a knowledge-based economy, the university plays a crucial role in innovation systems, both as a creator of new knowledge and ideas through research and as a provider of human capital. The Vision 2030 Strategic Framework outlines an action plan to elevate UAF's status as one of the internationally recognized research universities and a gateway to knowledge for agricultural and rural development in Pakistan. It provides overarching themes for more detailed plans that will be developed based on current imperatives, shaping strategic thinking in future planning cycles.
